Election Recap on KDHX Tonight

August 14, 2006 Media 5 Comments

I will be a guest on KDHX’s Collateral Damage program tonight from 7pm to 7:30pm. DJ Wilson, Thomas Crone and myself to review the results from the primary election as well as other timely topics. Have some ideas? Use the comments below for topics you’d like to see discussed on the air.

KDHX can be found at 88.1FM or at kdhx.org. You can stream online if you don’t have a radio (like myself) or you can subscribe to the podcast (iPod not required).

I am curious as to your opinion of why Mark Rice received 19% of the over-all vote in the 59th State Rep. race, which was bolstered by higher numbers in the 20th and 25th wards.

It’s not that I don’t feel engaged in politics, per se, but as the conversation tonight will most likely regard politics, I’d like to hear you guys talk about some of these newly elected and their good/bad policies and practices in regards to the urban infrastructure/built environment.

What are some things they are trying to do? Do they know what “urban” means? Have they supported or encouraged suburban practices in the city? Do they regard “any growth as good growth” or will they have standards? Describe the negative impacts parking lots, widened roads and megamarts have on a truly urban environment and what is in the power of the elected officials to control?

Well, that’s a starting point. I just don’t want to hear “so and so won and they have this ultra-political issue that EVERYONE is talking about so I guess we’ll talk about it too”. I’m not saying you don’t know politics, but I’d love to hear the coversation stick to purely urban issues and not get tangled in the typical left/right/liberal/consevative web.

What are these things called blogs? I felt that the host did some needless handholding for the audience, acting as if this blog thing is totally new. While I don’t know the demographic of the show, I would imagine it skews young and blogs are not new to them.
