More on the day care center that I posted about on March 16th:

PUBLIC NOTICE-A public hearing will be held by the Board of Adjustment at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, in Room 208 City Hall to consider the following:

APPEAL #8441-Appeal filed by Montrice Lewis, from the determination of the Board of Public Service in the denial of an occupancy permit authorizing the Appellant to operate a day care center for 20 children at 4657 Virginia. Ward 25 #AO328491-05 Zone: “F” Neighborhood Commercial District.

The prior post linked above has a “before” picture. Below is the current state of the building:

    This is the sort of shabiness that I have objected to on the corner of Virginia and Itaska. That area is a crisis and adding another business with coming and goings is only going to make it more of a crisis. Nothing to do with the color or the manner in which the exterior is painted, but just the thought of cramming more people into that area.We need someone at City Hall to take a good hard look at that corner and the adjoining street of 3300 Itaska and come up with some clear concise moves to clean it up. Of course I am not in city government, but I have some good ideas. First move would be to put the drug dealers out of business on Itaska. It is just out in the open and they are there waiting for anyone who comes up or down the street. Sometime one on each side to be sure they catch the cars coming and going.
